What "commercial" means this far out
Elk is not a strip-mall town. The buildings that need flat or low-slope roofing up here are the working backbone of the community: the feed and farm-supply shops near Hwy 2, the storage and equipment barns scaled up past residential size, the small church and grange halls, the contractor shops, and the light-industrial outbuildings tucked behind remote rural homes and cabins. We handle commercial and light-commercial roofing for all of them - the kind of structures where a homeowner's shingle crew is the wrong tool and a big-city commercial outfit won't make the drive.
Because the property base out here runs so spread out, we plan jobs around the distance. One mobilization, one staged delivery of materials, and a crew that stays until the roof is dry rather than bouncing back and forth from town.
Roofing systems that handle an Elk winter
The far north end of the county catches snow that piles up and sits. Sacheen Lake sees lake-effect bursts, and the open ground along Hwy 2 lets the wind drive it sideways. For commercial buildings that means a few things matter more than they would in milder country:
- Drainage and slope. Standing meltwater on a low-slope roof is the enemy. We build positive drainage with tapered insulation where the deck won't give us pitch on its own.
- Membrane choice. Single-ply TPO and modified-bitumen systems hold up to freeze-thaw and snow load better than tired old built-up roofs. We spec the membrane to the building's use and the heat coming off it.
- Seams and flashings. Ice works into every weak joint. Penetrations, curbs, and parapet flashings get detailed for water that refreezes overnight, not just water that runs off.
- Snow management. Where a roof sheds onto a doorway, walkway, or propane setup, we plan for where that snow lands.
Metal and standing-seam for ag and shop buildings
A lot of Elk's commercial structures are metal-clad pole buildings and shops, and that's a strength here, not a problem. Standing-seam and exposed-fastener metal roofs shed snow fast, last for decades, and stand up to the wind and hail the Inland Northwest throws at them. We re-roof aging metal, replace failed fastener systems that have started weeping at every screw, and detail the ridge, eave, and valley work so wind-driven snow doesn't pack under the panels. For larger ag outbuildings, metal is often the most cost-effective long-haul system we can put down.
Built for the rural reality
When your building sits well off the pavement past Sacheen Lake, a roof problem is harder to ignore and harder to get help for. We come prepared for that. Our crews arrive with the materials staged so we're not running to town mid-job, and we schedule around the access and weather windows that rural sites demand. Tear-off debris is hauled out, not left for you to deal with. And because we're licensed and insured in both Washington and Idaho, businesses near the state line and on either side of it can use the same crew.
Every commercial job is backed by our 15-25 year workmanship warranty, and on qualifying systems the GAF Golden Pledge gives you 25 to 50 years of manufacturer coverage - the kind of paper a lender or insurer actually wants to see on a commercial building.
Why Elk businesses call us
DG Contracting LLC has been a family-run shop since 2013, and our GAF Master Elite standing puts us in the top 2 to 3 percent of roofers nationwide - a credential earned, not bought. Our 5.0 rating across 288 Google reviews comes from owners who watched us show up, finish, and clean up. For commercial clients we offer:
- Free, no-pressure estimates with a real scope and a real number.
- Flexible financing so a roof replacement doesn't have to wait for a perfect quarter.
- Honest assessment - if a repair or maintenance plan gets you several more years, we'll tell you that instead of pushing a tear-off.
Repair, maintenance, and full replacement
Not every call out to Elk ends in a new roof. We do leak diagnosis on commercial membranes, re-flash problem penetrations, patch hail and wind damage, and set up seasonal maintenance so small failures get caught before the snow finds them. When a roof truly is at the end of its service life, we lay out the replacement options - membrane, metal, or a re-cover where the existing deck allows it - and let you weigh cost against how long you plan to own the building.
