Why low-slope roofs struggle in this valley
Chewelah sits in a pocket where lake-effect and mountain snow off the 49 Degrees North ridgeline stack up fast and linger. A pitched roof sheds that load by gravity, but a flat or low-slope deck holds it. The weight presses meltwater into every seam, and when daytime sun loosens the pack and the temperature drops again at night, that water refreezes and works its way under the membrane.

What TPO membrane brings to a mountain-town roof
TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is a single-ply membrane that gets heat-welded at every seam, so there are no glued laps to peel apart when ice gets under them. The welded seam is often stronger than the sheet itself. For Chewelah homes and shop roofs, that matters more than almost anywhere.

How we build for deep snow and ice
A membrane is only as good as what is under it and how the edges are detailed. Before we lay TPO we check the deck for soft spots, correct the slope toward drains where we can, and add tapered insulation so water is not sitting in a low corner all winter.
Then we focus on the parts that fail first: parapet walls, drain bowls, pipe penetrations, and wall transitions. Those get reinforced membrane and welded boots. We finish edges with proper metal terminations so wind coming down off Quartzite Mountain cannot catch a corner and start peeling the sheet.
